HSE minimum recommendations for First Aid training in workplaces
Type of workplace and levels of risk Numbers employed (at any location) HSE recommendations for First aid trained staff
Less than 25 1 appointed person
Lower risk and hazards - Offices & Shops 25-50 At least 1 First Aider trained in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW).
More than 50 At Least 1 First Aider trained in First Aid at Work (FAW) for every 100 employees (or part therof).
Higher risk and hazards - Light engineering and assembly work, food processing, catering, warehousing, work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments, construction, chemical manufacturing. Less than 25 1 appointed person
25-50 At least 1 First Aider trained in EFAW or FAW (dependent on typical injuries).
More than 50 At Least 1 First Aider trained in FAW for every 50 employees (or part therof).
